The Method.

A project: a methodical exploration of self and shame.

The End

Not literally as we are only midway through the project. Our end scenes have been given to us and most of us are working on them now as we sit here in the green room. From Shakespeare to almost silent film, there is much wealth to be found in each scene.

Most of us are nervous. I think that’s the way to be at this stage. All of us barre Lian have a day off tomorrow and I’ll be using the opportunity to pick up a coat for my character. I shoot on next week.

Karaoke

We had a bit of a party on Saturday night: us and the crew. It was great. Got nicely drunk with James, Dave, Jerome and Lian. Simon and Lesley could’t make it.

We got our end scenes today. Mine requires me to say three words. The rest is physical work in what I deem to be a demanding role.

However, on our travels yesterday I picked up a magazine called ‘The Crack’. In it, I saw an ad for Grizzly Bear at the Sage. So Dave and I are going along with a few members of the crew.

Exciting.

Killing a pig

So.Two exercise today: one with Leslie which focused on the isolation of my characer and another focusing on the aggressive act followed by immediate remorse. Switching between emotions was hard, but this is the art.

Scene one was where I had to focus on rejecting Leslie’s need for a child.

Scene two, and I had to assault a dead pig’s carcass.

James kissed five girls and chose one to be an on-screen girlfriend. After establishing a passionate connection: they were parted.

Can’t help but be reminded of Lennon’s ‘Mind Games’.

Tomorrow - it will be a week since arrival.

Thailand

Thankfully, this morning has focused on the happier side of life. My memories, much like everyone else’s experience, imbibed warmth and joy.

After that, we had a read through a script as penned by Jerome. Interesting!

Fish n’ Chips for lunch.

Dave?

Sam rang me this evening and told me that a lot came up in Dave’s session. He asked if J and I could just look out for him and chat to him if he wanted to.

Dave seemed to have been hit pretty hard by his scene with Leslie. He seems OK, but it’s hard to truly tell when you don’t really know someone.

Also spoke to live-in cameraman, Damian, who - unlike his namesake in The Omen - seems like a really nice chap.

And so, on to day 5. How much deeper we will go is anyone’s guess.

YEAH.

YEAH.

Sonnet 29

The fear of learning by rote is heavily associated with the memory of school and the hell of exams. However, I think, though only 14 lines, I have learnt Sonnet 29.

Now I’ve to get the lyrics of For No One in my head, too.

Shame

Today’s exercise focused on the senses: taste, smell and pain.

It brought for me memories of Solihull School and the bastard teachers and pupils.

Anger came from the shame they made me feel. We got to use actual words in place of the explosive sound. It helped actualize the anger.

Good. Real.
